The present Santo Ildefonso Church was built between 1709 and 1739 and replaced a previous chapel. Its façade has interesting twin ornate and dentilled bell towers and a niche with a statue of the patron saint. But the distinguishing feature is the blue and white tile panelling which dates from 1932 and depicts episodes from the life of St Ildefonso and other allegorical Eucharistic scenes. It is the work of Jorge Colaço (1868-1942) who was also responsible for the tiled murals in the concourse of the nearby São Bento railway station. Inside, the 1745 main altar retable is by Nicolau Nasoni.
