Santo Espirito is a pretty village surrounded by pastures, and typical of the Azores. It has a beautiful parish church, the Nossa Senhora da Purificação, which is adorned with unusual black lava carvings. It is, in fact, the most important village in the south-eastern part of the island. The area around the village is well known to ramblers and Santo Espirito is the departure point for some pleasant walks, providing beautiful scenery and excellent panoramic views.
