Following the suppression of religious orders in 1834, the Franciscan Convent of Santo António became privately owned and, although a listed monument, it is in a poor state of repair. The convent was founded in 1578, but the church, residential buildings and the outbuildings are from the 18th century. There are some fine 18th century azulejo tiled panels depicting scenes from the life of St Anthony, the tiles for which were made locally in Coimbra. The retable is in Mannerist style with fine wood carving.
