The church of Santo António is situated on the upper Rossio of Alcácer do Sal. The building is all that now remains of the Medieval Franciscan convent that bore the same name. Entrance is gained through an attractive porch displaying renaissance features. The interior is beautiful, with the lateral nave, fashioned from white Estremoz marble, added between 1555 and 1565. The chapel of Eleven Thousand Virgins, capped by a cupola, also covered in Estremoz marble, creates the feeling of being in a cool place of serenity.
