The Santo António Church was the original Misericórdia Church, which moved to its present home in the Graça Convent in 1836, for this reason this church is also known as the as the ‘Old Misericórdia’. The Misericórdia church was built in the 16th century by Simão Silva. The present Joanine Baroque façade has an image of Saint Isabel at the entrance and one of Saint Anthony in a niche. Inside, the main chapel features a Baroque gold leaf carved altar, impressive painted ceilings and a multi-coloured wood statue of St. Francis.
