Located at the top of the Calçada de Santo Amaro between Belém and Lisbon city center, the Renaissance style Santo Amaro Chapel is worth visiting. Built by the Cristo religious order in 1549 (the date is inscribed above the main door), there are two distinct parts, a circular chapel and a semi-circular hall. The multi-coloured azueljo tiles are of particular interest; those to the hall are from the late 16th/early 17th centuries, whilst those in the church, depicting scenes from the lives of saints, are from the 18th century. There are splendid views of the River Tagus.
