Situated not far from the Pego do Altar dam is the village of Santa Susana. This is rather a unique village in that the architecture, instead of only conforming to the traditional housing of the Alentejo, also has many buildings in the modernist architecture from the 40s. They were built by the benefactor, Henrique Louro Fernandes, whose monogram (HF) adorns many of the structures. The village church is small, but its two 16th century panels are magnificent, making the church worthy of a visit.
