Located about 8.5 km northwest of Santa Maria da Feira and housed in a former paper mill founded in 1822, the Santa Maria Paper Museum seeks to preserve the memory of papermaking in Portugal. The museum, apart from illustrating the history of the industry, has operational areas where visitors can participate in the paper making process. The ruins of the so called ‘New Mill’ (1795-1958) also form part of the museum and indicate the importance of this industry to the area.
