The church of Santa Maria de Alcáçova is tucked away in a small plaza of the same name. Originally built in the 13th century, it was constructed on the site of an Islamic mosque. In the 15th century the façade was replaced and a small image of Santa Maria, carved from stone, was placed in a niche. The interior is simple with the arched vault supported by octagonal columns. The lateral altars are embellished in a typically 17th century style.
