Originally known as the Chapel of Santa Maria do Castelo, the 16th century parish church was substantially modified and refurbished in the late 19th century. Its most notable feature, the beautiful blue and white tiling to the façade, was carried out in 1940 and depicts scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary. Inside, there are a number of valuable images including São Francisco de Sales and Santa Teresa de Jesus and the Santo Lenho relic of the Holy Cross donated to the Santa Cruz chapel by Prince Luís, the son of King Manuel I. The church has 11 altars.
