The three-masted 22 metres long Santa Maria galleon, a replica of Christopher Columbus’ boat, cruises twice a day along the coast. The boat can take 100 passengers and has a bar. Trips last approximately three hours and with luck you will see dolphins and experience times gone by with your suitably dressed crew. Madeira wine and honey cakes are offered and the boat stops at the bottom of Cabo Girão, the highest cliff in Europe, for a swim. Built in 1998 in the fishing village Câmara de Lobos by immigrant Dutchman Rob Wijntje, the boat is constructed entirely of mahogany.
