At the top of the hill, beside the hotel, are the remains of the old fortified settlement of Santa Luzia. It was occupied from about 500 BC in the Iron Age until 500 AD, having been taken over by the Romans around 26 BC. There are about 80 huts, mainly circular, which can be viewed from raised walkways over the extensively excavated site. Some of the huts are divided into rooms and have stone benches or shelves and many have a porch area; ovens and millstones can also be seen. The site was originally protected by three walls.
