The ancient village of Serzedelo, a parish located approximately 14 km southwest of Guimăraes, has an interesting cluster of buildings which constitute the Romanesque Church of Santa Cristina. In the early Middle Ages this was an important centre in the Entre Douro and Minho area of Portugal. The church was built up over the centuries and has a Gothic narthex (a porch-like structure), a 13th century bell tower and its sacristy was originally used as a funeral chapel. There are 16th century murals, including one of the Annunciation. Serzedelo is also known for its feast day of the Crosses (Cruzes).
