This small museum, which stands next to the church dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, contains books, religious icons, clothing and many other items related to the life of Lisbon’s most popular saint. Gold and silverware used to decorate the church is also on display. One amusing item, which illustrates the affection for Saint Anthony, is a commemorative china plate carrying an inscription which translates roughly as: ‘anyone who says Saint Anthony is of Padua is not a good Portuguese citizen. Our little saint is of Lisbon and this should settle it once and for all’.
