The Sacred Art and Ethnology Museum is designed to give visitors an insight into religion in Portugal from the 14th century onwards and has exhibits collected from all over Portugal. Texts, photographs, maps, graphics, together with nativity scenes, crucifixes and many other items from around the world, effectively combine to give a clear picture of Portuguese Christianity. Particularly interesting is the religious role played by the Portuguese in their former colonies and during the Age of Discoveries. There is also a collection of original ethnographic items from Africa, America and the Far East.
