The neo-classical Rua das Taipas Fountain, now part of Porto’s city centre heritage, dates from 1772. It was built, with the approval of the city council, and paid for by the inhabitants of Postigo das Virtudes square and replaced the existing fountain. Water was fed from the Paranhos water spring, through the Arca do Anjo reservoir and by an aqueduct that supplied the Olival-Cordoaría area. Elegant in design, an oval medallion serves as a waterspout, discharging into a semi-circular bowl.
