One of the important tourist spots on Flores is the stunning nature attraction of Rocha dos Bordões (Bordões Rock). This imposing geological phenomenon was formed by the solidification of basalt in high vertical channels. This striking and very photogenic sight forms a majestic headland. Near the base and at sea level, are small hollows filled with boiling, sulphurous water. Although in some of the other coastal areas there are also basaltic formations, these of a smaller size, making the curious geological phenomenon of Rocha dos Bordões unique.
