Resende stands on the slopes of the Serra do Montemuro and offers superb views over the River Douro, it is also a convenient centre to visit other attractions (see separate entries). To the east is the São Martinho de Mouros church, about 11 km from Resende, in the form of a tower surmounted by a belfry and with a multi-archivolt doorway. A further 5 km to the northeast is the Barrô church with a similar doorway and interesting corbelling. The Torre da Lagariça, approximately 11 km southwest of Resende, is a medieval tower used as a residence.
