Also known as ‘The Palace of Millions’ and the palace of Quinta da Regaleira, it was constructed in the early 20th century by the millionaire António Augusto Carvalho Monteiro. Classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO, the palace is built in the Romanticist revival style and imitates Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance architecture. The gardens are a delight, filled with statues of gods, wells, ponds and grottoes. The Chapel of Holy Trinity is worthy of special mention. The palace houses the works of the sculptress Dorita Castel-Branco.
