Located in the Jardim do Passeio, between the Avenida de Dom Carlos I and the Passeio Allegre, the monument to Raul Brandão is the work of architect Rogério de Azevedo (1898-1983) and sculptor Henrique Moreira. It was inaugurated in 1967. Raul Germano Brandão (1867-1930) was a leading Portuguese modernist writer and journalist who was born in Foz do Douro, a parish of Porto. A major theme of his work was the tragic lives of poor people. The effigy and the bronze sculptures are set in a granite surround.
