Also known as the Mexican House, the Palácio do Raio is in the south eastern part of Braga. Built in 1754, it was designed by André Soares, who is said to have introduced Joanine Baroque architecture to Braga. This building is regarded as one of the best examples of this art. The palace owes its name to Miguel José Raio, Viscount of São Lázaro, who bought the property in1834. Notable features include the blue tiled façade, the decorative work to the entrance and the fine wrought iron balconies. The balcony over the entrance contains two sculptures.
