The Palace of Estremoz was built by King Dinis when he became engaged to Princess Isabel of Aragon. The queen loved the palace and it was here, in one of the bedrooms, that she died in 1336. This room was later transformed into the Capela da Rainha Santa (chapel of the saintly queen) and is richly decorated with azuelo tiles portraying her life. This beautiful building has recently been fully restored and converted into a luxury pousada. Not far from the palace stands a marble statue depicting the queen.
