The visitor centre for the natural marine parkland of the Rio Formosa is about 1km east of Olhão harbour in Quinta de Marim. The nature reserve stretches for 60 km along the coast with vast dunes, salt marshes, flora and fauna and rare species of birds. It is a unique and beautiful area. There is a tide driven mill dating from the 13th Century, a bird rescue facility and breeding centre for the Cao de Agua, a dog with webbed paws which swims underwater.
