The Osório Cabral de Castro family acquired this site in 1730. The palace was rebuilt by Miguel Osório Cabral de Castro after a fire in the late 19th century; it is now a luxury hotel. It was here, in 1335, that Inês de Castro is said to have been murdered by killers sent by King Alfonso, the father of her lover, Pedro the Cruel. The park is open to the public and the Fonte do Amores recalls the tragic love story of the "Garden of Tears" as told by the legendary poet, Camões. Romantics from many countries visit this site.
