Querença is a typically traditional Algarvean village of white houses and modest gardens. It has been left unspoilt by tourism and is well worth a day’s outing. The town’s church, Igreja Nossa Senhora da Assunção, has its origins in the 16th century, but has undergone subsequent alterations. The façade has a simply decorated 16th century Manueline doorway and the side entrance is also from the original building. The main and side chapels have18th century carved and gilded retables. Among the wonderful statues to be seen are a 16th century Virgin and Child and a 17th century Our Lady of the Assumption.
