Quelfes is surrounded by green fig trees and vines, and is typically Algarvean with whitewashed houses and decorated chimneys. The church is gothic, as is apparent from the doorway of the side entrance. The 16th century main entrance is in the Renaissance style. Inside is an arch, reflecting the transition from the Manueline to the Renaissance, decorated with vine leaves and grapes, and a 16th century ribbed vault with rosettes. There are a number of 18th century statues. Nearby is a bridge of Roman origin. In 1808 Napoleonic forces were defeated, a victory that started an uprising throughout the Algarve.
