Vasco da Gama Beach is in a sheltered bay with practically no waves and ideal for windsurfing and sailing. It is situated within the city limits of Sines and has been the scene of major events in Portuguese history. On the Avenida Marginal, which is very popular for walkers and joggers, there are plenty of bars and terraces. The beach plays host to a range of sporting events and concerts. This is an EEC Blue Flag beach which is supervised, has facilities for disabled visitors, sunshade rental, small craft hire, parking, restaurants, bars and showers. The average seawater temperature in summer is 17-19ºC.
