The Praia Grande begins at the outer limits of Armação de Pêra, with its westerly point at the Alcantarilha stream and its easterly point at the Salgados lagoon. The lagoon is a site of special ecological interest and is home to various protected species. The Praia Grande is less crowded than many Algarve beaches, but still provides good tourist facilities such as: Facilities for disabled, sunshade rental, small craft hire, parking, restaurants and bars. The beach is supervised and good for windsurfing and sailing. The average seawater temperature in summer is 20-23 ºC.
