Situated midpoint of the Ilha da Culatra, Praia dos Hangares is more peaceful and deserted than neighbouring Praia do Farol. As you move eastwards you can still find an old bunker and barbed wire, legacies from the time when the navy’s seaplanes used to be moored on the island. There is a small village formed from fishermen’s houses and holiday homes, facing inland towards the Ria. Access is by boat from Faro (in the summer) and Olhão (all year round). There are facilities and the beach is supervised during the bathing season.
