Praia dos Cavacos is a lagoon beach situated in the heart of the salt-marshes. The small bay is surrounded by salt-pans. Close to the west of the beach is the headquarters and visitors’ centre of the Ria Formosa Natural Park with its working tidal mill. The beach is quite narrow, but the river estuary is wide, offering some very peaceful bathing. In the distance you can see the sand dunes of Ilha da Armona. Praia dos Cavacos is the venue for the annual festival of Cavacos. There is parking near the beach, but no support facilities and it is unsupervised.
