Praia dos Careanos has, as its backdrop, a continuous line of high cliffs. Access to the beach is via a set of steep steps that feels as if you are going through an old pothole. Countless caves and nooks and crannies mark the cliffs, the most notable being an enormous pothole at the western end and an isolated rock formation that looks like a small fortress with a large natural arch. There is a footpath along the top of the cliff, marked out and protected, offering superb views of the rocky coastline. The beach is supervised during the bathing season.
