This small cove is sheltered by low sculpted rocks. Three enormous isolated rocks dominate the line of the horizon, which is why the beach is known locally as Praia dos Três Penecos (beach of three rocks). The area around the beach is covered by pine trees and dwarf fan palms, the only palm native to Europe. Access is by wooden steps and traffic is controlled on the cliff top in order to protect the cliff. The beach is close to the village of São Rafael, has a large parking area, restaurants and toilets and is supervised during the bathing season.
