Zavial beach stands at the mouth of a stream, and is a wide, open area of golden sand. At the western end there is an enormous rocky spur marking the boundary of the beach. Praia do Zavial is very popular among surfers. The eastern end of the beach is calmer, with jagged cliffs and rock formations known locally as furnas. Close to Praia do Zavial are the ruins of a 17th-century fortress. There is parking available, the beach is supervised during the bathing season and restaurant and toilets are sited on the beach.
