Praia da Martinhal is a beautiful sweep of golden sand with a lagoon behind and an island out to sea. The views of the fishing harbour and small lighthouse are stunning. A firm favourite amongst windsurfers, surfers and body boarders, it has its own windsurfing club, which is open to visitors. The club also offers snorkelling and kayaking. The ruins of an important Roman pottery centre and remains of fish salting tanks add historic interest. There are restaurants on the beach and a large car park which is flat and runs straight to the sand, making it easier for disabled access.
