The Praia do Carvalho is reached via an enormous set of stone steps, which descend in a gentle arc down the cliff face. At the base, access to the sand is through a tunnel dug by hand out of the rocks, where you can see lots of marine fossils embedded in the walls. And it is not only the tunnel that was dug out of the rock face, but also a bar for serving thirsty beach goers. This beach is roughly five kilometres east of Carvoeiro. There is parking, but the beach has no support facilities or supervision.
