The Barranco das Belharucas Beach is separated from Olhos de Água beach by rocks, which can be passed at low tide. Its name comes from the cliff, known as the "barranco" which is used as home by belharucas (European bee-eaters). Although access is more difficult than other beaches, it is worth the effort as this quiet beach is well-maintained and has a wide range of sports and aquatic activities including windsurfing and sailing. Small craft hire is possible. It is an EEC Blue Flag beach with average summer seawater temperature of 20-23 ºC. There is parking nearby and the beach has showers and restaurants.
