São Rafael Beach is a large sandy and picturesque beach flanked by limestone cliffs. There are some fascinating rock formations, such as Ponte Pequena (small bridge) and Ninho das Andorinhas (swallows’ nest). The EEC Blue Flag beach has a good range of facilities including restaurants, showers and sunshade rental. The average summer seawater temperature is 20-23 ºC. There is parking, but traffic is strictly controlled on the cliff top in order to minimise destabilisation of the cliff.
