Praia de Faro is a long expanse of sand forming part of the Ancão Peninsula, which marks out the western boundary of the Ria Formosa. Access is via a narrow bridge across the lagoon. At the eastern end there is a nature trail with raised wooden pathways along the dunes. On the river side of the island the water is used intensively for water sports. The view from this side of the island is superb, overlooking Faro and the distant mountains. Parking is plentiful and the beach has excellent support facilities, including for disabled visitors, as well as being supervised during the bathing season.
