Praia da Rocha is located at the mouth of the Arade River and extends over three kilometres. Popular since the 1800s, this is the beach featured in most publicity photographs. The sea provides risk-free swimming and the beach is equipped for basketball, football, volleyball and aerobics. Tomás Cabreira Avenue, which follows the coastline to the Santa Catarina de Ribamar Fortress, is full of hotels, bars, restaurants, esplanades and discotheques. It is also home to the casino. The beach is an EEC Blue Flag, with average summer seawater of 20-22 ºC. It has facilities for disabled.
