The Praia da Culatra is situated towards the eastern end of the Ilha da Culatra. The village, which consisted of wooden huts until about twenty years ago, is still inhabited by fishermen, but has been considerably upgraded. The beach stretches both to the east and west. To the extreme east is Barra Grande, where you will find natural pools formed in the sand. Access is by boat from Faro (in the summer) and Olhão (all year round) and there are restaurants and toilets. Praia da Culatra is supervised during the bathing season, but there is no supervision at Barra Grande.
