Porto Santo beach stretches for an uninterrupted 9 km and is famous for its fine golden sand and its therapeutic properties in the treatment of orthopaedic and circulatory problems. It is the only sandy beach in the archipelago and has an average summer seawater temperature of 22 ºC. This is an EEC blue flag beach with lifeguards on duty in season and it is suitable for windsurfing, sailing and diving; it also used for football and volleyball. Umbrellas and small craft can be hired and there are bars, restaurants and cafes.
