Situated about 13 km north of Torres Vedras, at the mouth of the Alcabrichel river, the Praia de Porto Novo is at the end of a most beautiful valley, where the lush green vegetation covers the remains of pre-historic settlements. Historically a fishing port, Porto Novo was the place where the British troops disembarked, prior to the Battle of Vimeiro against Napoleon in 1807. The beach is suitable for surfing, wind surfing and body boarding, other facilities include umbrella hire, dining and parking. Summer seawater is in the order of 17-18° C.
