Not only is the Porta da Moura Square a picturesque place to rest, it also contains an interesting Renaissance fountain which dates from 1556 and is the work of architect Diogo de Torralva. The square is surrounded by Moorish style architecture. Note the belvedere of the Casa Cordovil which stands next to the home of Cantor Manuel Severim de Faria, famous for his studies of the Portuguese discoveries. Also of interest is the window of the house of Garcia de Resende, the king’s secretary and poet.
