Planalto dos Graminhais is a high plain and nature reserve, and is home to the highest peak on the island, the Pico da Vara, at 1,105 metres. The peak is surrounded by dense cedar forests. There are several tracks climbing up to the Planalto dos Graminhais. Once you have made the effort of an approximately two-hour climb to the top, you will, in good weather conditions, be rewarded with breathtaking views embracing almost the whole of the island. The panorama is absolutely stunning.
