The peak at Picota is 774 metres high. It is steep, but well worth the climb for the stunning views that take in a long sweep of the Algarve and the distant ocean. Apart from the well-known and much visited hot springs at Caldas da Monchique, there are two further natural warm water springs, one of which is to the south of Picota, hidden in a valley. It is known as Fonte Santa and is rumoured to have special healing properties.
