Pico da Vara

The Pico da Vara is the highest point on the island, with an altitude of 1105m. To reach the summit one has to undertake a challenging walk of from one and a half to two hours. The walk is along a path which offers magnificent scenery of nature in the most primitive form. Pico da Vara is considered part of the Natural Reserve, and a previous authorisation by the Regional Forestry Ministry may be required before setting out, but any effort required is more than rewarded by the magnificent scenery.
