The highest point on the island of São Jorge is the Pico da Esperança, at 1,053 metres high. From here there are panoramic views of the other islands in the central group: Faial, Pico, Graciosa and Terceira. Its land, mainly used for grazing, offers sweeping view of unusual beauty that can be seen from the roads that are bordered by plantations of hydrangeas and heather bushes. The countryside of the Pico da Esperança is an invitation to enjoy all that beauty and tranquillity provided by nature in its purest form.
