The Exposição Fotogrâfica Vulcão dos Capelinhos is found at the entrance to the tiny village of Capelo, which also had suffered badly during the eruptions of the Capelinhos volcano. The exposition presents a comprehensive and vivid photographic record, together with written reports, to document the events during the eruptions from 1957 to 1958. The catastrophic effects of these eruptions were immense and the photographs taken at the time bring home just how powerful and destructive nature can be.
