Call in at the famous café A Brasiliera and enjoy a coffee. You can sit on the terrace close to the table occupied by a bronze statue of one of Portugal’s most famous poets, Fernando Pessoa, which is the work of sculptor Lagoa Henriques. A regular patron of the café, which was a haunt for the literary and artistic, Pessao is said to have consumed large quantities of hallucinogenic absinthe here. At various times it is also said to have been a meeting place for spies and a hotbed of revolutionary fervour in the Salazar years.
