Pedro Miguel is located on the eastern coast of the island, between Praia do Almoxarife and Ribeirinha, and there are many hidden attractions. On the coast there are some coves where you can swim or go hiking in fields and woods. Many houses were destroyed by the 1998 earthquake, including the Church of Our Lady of Help, from the 17th century, which stands behind palm trees, and from where you can still see the ruins of an old windmill. Near the local quay, next to an old circular threshing floor, there is a facility for barbecues and picnics.
